THE SHADOW OF DEATH

"Has she arrived yet?" Judith asked over the phone while her fingers were busy typing on the computer keyboard. "What? She's still not home?" she hung up and sigh.

What's up with her?

She was surprised when Kevin suddenly showed up from behind her, "Hey, are you coming with us later?"

Judith hesitated and said, "Y-yes."

Kevin smiled, "Okay, later."

"Later."

"How is he?" Belial asked the black shadow who was currently in charged of guarding the red light district's underground gambling den.

"Just like how you've instructed us, he's getting all the luck in the world," the fallen snorted with laughter.

Belial moved closer to Derrick and watched as he continuously won one bet after another. Then he turned back to the shadow and said, "Take it all away."

The black shadow laughed again, "As you wish, my lord." He went behind Derrick and three other demons gathered around their table.

The dealer started to shuffle the cards. The blinds were posted. The pot was raised. Derrick took a quick look on what he got. He smiled and gave his all.

Joan checked her phone and saw five missed calls from her mother. "Hey, go home. My husband might arrive soon."

George ignored her. When he didn't move, she threw the pillow on his head. "I told you to go home. Derrick might come anytime from now."

"It's only past six o'clock! What's the hurry?" he complained.

When Judith's phone rang again, she immediately answered it, "Mom?"

"What are you doing? I've been calling you.."

"What do you want?"

"I want to see my grandchild now. I received this free pass to the amusement park so I'll bring her there tomorrow."

"Mom, are you crazy?" Joan said. When she tossed the blanket away, George placed his hands around her waist and tried to pull her back down. She hit him with her hands as she left the bed. She heard him tried to suppress his laughter so she went outside the room. "The bus fare is too expensive, I can't just bring her there today. Anyway, I already asked Judith to come and get her," she continued.

"Alright, alright I'll call your sister then."

When Joan hung up, Mrs. Jimenez dialed her oldest daughter's number. When she didn't pick up, she redialed the number and whispered to herself, "These girls are sure busy."`

Kevin placed his hands on Judith's lap as he placed a lit cigarette in her mouth. She laughed hard even though she didn't understand what he whispered in her ear. They talked and laughed until all their voices got drowned in the midst of loud music played in the bar that night.

Prince Sitri silently watched from behind when Judith felt her phone vibrated inside her pocket. She took the phone and walked away.

"Mom, I can't fetch her right now. I'm still busy at work." Judith said. She looked back and stared at the table where her co-workers were all busy eating and drinking alcohol. She found Kevin's face and saw him lighting his cigarette. He turned his head towards her direction and smiled. She smiled back and waved her hand.

Leave, she heard the voice said once again.

Judith shook her head and said, "Okay, okay. I'll tell Ethan to pick her up." The phone vibrated again and when she checked on it, it was a text message. "Just right on time. Mom, Ethan's on call waiting. I have to take it. I'll call you later, okay? Bye."

When her mother hung up, she checked the text message. It was from Ethan reminding her to pick up Aisha after her work. She was about to reply when Kevin suddenly called her. When she looked up, he was already in front of her.

You should call her, a voice inside Ethan's mind echoed. He took his phone again and dialed her number. However, no matter how many times he tried to dial the number, she didn't pick up her phone. Tired, he leaned back in his chair and stared at the long report he was supposed to finish in an hour.

He heard knocks on the door and when it opened, it was the manager. "Ethan, we will have our meeting in thirty minutes, please get ready with the presentation."

"No, I.." he shook his head. "I need more time."

"But we don't have time. The clients are on their way," his boss said. "Hurry and finish it."

Ethan nodded, "I understand.." When the manager left the room, he placed the phone back on his table and worked on finishing his report as fast as he could.

"Where do you think your going you bitch?" Angel shouted.

"You have an ugly attitude," Macey said. "You're not funny."

"Who said I'm making you laugh? Bitch!" Angel continued as she pace back and forth. She stomped her feet and kicked the ground as she continued, "Who told you to take her side?"

"You're gonna stop right?" Aisha finally said.

Angel rushed to her and pushed her to the ground, "C'mon! C'mon."

"Stooop!" Macey ran towards them and took Angel's hands. "Stop!"

Aisha stood up and cried. "You ain't cute," she shouted as she ran away from them.

Not too far away from the scene, a human figure clothed in white linen watched as Aisha ran away. His skin gleamed like a burning bronze and his eyes glow like it was on fire. When Aisha disappeared from his site, the man also vanished in thin air.

Aisha felt tired and stopped running. She placed her hands on her stomach and felt it grumbled. When she looked ahead, she saw her father on the sidewalk. She ran again and called him.

"Pa!"

Derrick was startled and turned around. When he realized it was his daughter, he got angry and scolded her. "What are you still doing outside? Do you know what time it is?"

"Uh...I- I.." Aisha stuttered worried about the time.

"Where's your mother?" Derrick asked her.

"She.. w-with uncle George," she answered.

Derrick stopped walking and stared at Aisha for a long time. That asshole?

"I'm hungry," she said.

He left Aisha and hurriedly went back home.
